Author Guidelines

Geographica Pannonica accepts manuscripts written in English only. Submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
All submissions must be prepared in accordance with the journal’s formatting, technical, and ethical requirements before entering the peer review process.
Before submission, authors must ensure that all authors have been correctly entered into the submission system with their full names, affiliations, and e-mail addresses. Changes in authorship after submission, including the addition of authors, are not permitted.

Before submission

Before starting the submission, authors should make sure that:

  • the manuscript fits the journal’s scope;
  • the manuscript is written in English and professionally proofread where necessary;
  • all metadata entered in the system are complete and accurate;
  • all authors have been entered into the system with the correct names, affiliations, and e-mail addresses;
  • the final authorship list is complete, since no author may be added after submission;
  • the manuscript is technically prepared according to the journal requirements;
  • all tables and figures are correctly placed in the manuscript and all figure files are prepared separately for upload.

Types of papers

Geographica Pannonica publishes the following categories of manuscripts:

  • Original scientific articles;
  • Review articles;
  • Editorials (written by editors, editorial board members, or other senior researchers by invitation)
  • Short communications (intended to encourage authors to present views, comments, and opinions related to an important emerging issue, to discuss a debatable topic, or to point to future research trends and directions)

Special issues may also be published on the basis of a coherent set of papers originating from scientific conferences, meetings, or workshops.

Manuscript originality and exclusivity

  • Submitted manuscripts must not have been published previously and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere while under review by Geographica Pannonica. Parallel submission is considered a breach of publication ethics.

Language

  • Only manuscripts written in English are accepted. The journal strongly recommends that manuscripts be professionally proofread before submission. Authors are responsible for the linguistic quality of the manuscript.

Article length

  • The article should not exceed 36,000 characters with spaces, including tables and references.

File format

  • The main manuscript file should be prepared in a PC-compatible word-processing format such as .doc or .docx.

Page layout and formatting

Authors should prepare manuscripts using the following basic layout:

  • paper size: A4;
  • margins: 2.5 cm on all sides;
  • paragraph spacing: single (1);
  • alignment: left;
  • hyphenation: none.

Font and headings

Use Times New Roman, 12 pt for the main text and for table and figure titles.

Headings should be formatted as follows:

  • title of the paper: 16 pt, bold;
  • second-level headings: 14 pt, bold;
  • third-level headings: 12 pt, bold.

Do not number section headings.

Author information in the manuscript

Below the manuscript title, authors should provide:

  • full name and surname of each author;
  • affiliation of each author;
  • full institutional address;
  • e-mail address for all authors.

The corresponding author should be clearly identified, together with the contact e-mail address.

Abstract and keywords

The manuscript must include:

  • an abstract of up to 800 characters;
  • up to 7 keywords.

Recommended manuscript structure

It is strongly recommended that the manuscript contains the following sections:

  • Introduction
  • Data and Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion

The exact internal structure may vary depending on the type of paper and the nature of the research.

Tables

Tables must:

  • be included in the main manuscript in their correct positions;
  • be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals;
  • have the title placed above the table;
  • include the data source below the table where relevant.

Authors are required to submit supplementary raw data in MS Excel format where applicable.

Figures, maps, graphs, and photographs

All figures must:

  • be referred to as Figure and numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals;
  • be inserted in the appropriate place in the main text;
  • have the title placed below the figure;
  • be submitted as separate files in addition to being embedded in the manuscript.

Accepted file formats for figures are:

  • JPG
  • PDF
  • EPS

Authors must ensure that bitmap figures have a minimum width of 1600 px.

If a figure has been published previously, the original source must be acknowledged.

If the manuscript contains a map, it is essential to include:

  • an appropriate scale bar;
  • a legend;
  • a north arrow.

For maps produced in GIS software with combined raster and vector content, authors should prepare technically adequate files for both editable and final versions whenever required by the journal.

Supplementary files

In addition to the manuscript file, authors should upload all relevant accompanying materials, including:

  • separate figure files;
  • raw data files in Excel format where applicable;
  • any additional material required for the evaluation or technical preparation of the submission.

Reference style

The journal uses the American Psychological Association (APA) citation style.

Authors must:

  • ensure that all in-text citations are included in the reference list;
  • include only cited sources in the reference list;
  • provide DOI numbers where available;
  • ensure consistency and completeness of all bibliographic data.

In-text citations
References in the text should be cited by the author’s surname and year of publication.

Examples:

  • one author: (Smith, 2017);
  • if the author’s name appears in the sentence: Smith (2017);
  • two authors: (Smith & Peterson, 2017) or Smith and Peterson (2017);
  • more than two authors: (Smith et al., 2017).

When two or more works are cited in the same parentheses, they should be arranged in the same order in which they appear in the reference list.

Examples:

  • (Brown, 1980; Dawson & Briggs, 1974; Dawson & Jones, 1974; Smith et al., 1978).
    Two or more works by the same author published in the same year should be distinguished by adding a lowercase letter after the year.

Examples:

  • (Smith, 2003a);
  • (Smith, 2003b).
  • When an organization is the author, the full name should be used in the first citation.

Example:

  • World Meteorological Organization (WMO, 2011).

Reference list

At the end of the manuscript, references should be listed under the heading References.

The reference list must:

  • contain only sources cited in the text, including those cited in tables and figures;
  • be arranged alphabetically;
  • include DOI numbers where available;
  • use full official names when organizations are authors;

If no publication date is available, use (n.d.).
If a source has been accepted for publication but not yet published, use (in press).
If the original version of a non-English work is used, authors should cite the original title and provide an English translation of the title in square brackets. If an English translation is the version used, the English title should be cited directly.
