History of Research:
Sustainable tourism, as a form of tourism development that strictly controls the impact of tourism on the environment, stands out as an important development concept in the modern world. The necessity of balancing the ecological, economic and socio-cultural components of tourism is therefore increasingly emphasized in tourism development plans and strategies. Sustainable tourism needs to be developed in protected natural assets. As simultaneously ecologically sensitive and touristically attractive areas, protected natural assets, which include national parks, nature parks, reserves, represent increasingly popular tourist destinations. Ecotourism is a form of tourism most often associated with nature protection and protected natural assets. Ecotourism is a paradigm of sustainable development. It is a contemporary form of tourism in which, through education, volunteer activities, learning about nature, the preservation and protection of nature is aided.
Tourism development in protected natural assets must be adapted to the fact of their ecological sensitivity. This, above all, implies determining the carrying capacity and limits of acceptable changes, environmental impact assessment, tourism zoning and designing ethical codes that would help tourists harmonize their activities with the characteristics of the environment and natural values.
The goal of forming this research group is the popularization of tourism as an important activity in the management of protected natural assets; tourism-ecological education; designing tourist itineraries that will not disturb the natural values of protected areas, creating plans and strategies for tourism development based on carrying capacity and preservation of environmental values; as well as an incentive in the development of natural, ecotourism and sustainable tourism in the ecologically most valuable landscapes of our country.
