THE INFLUENCE OF THE WEATHER AND CLIMATIC CONDITIONS AND SOME HYDROLOGICAL AND CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SOMEȘ RIVER, IN THE NW PART OF ROMANIA
Authors: Adriana Muntean, Irina Smical, Eugen Nour
Abstract: This study highlights the influence of the quantity on the rainfall and air temperature recorded at the hydrographic station Ulmeni (in the Maramures County, in the N-W part of Romania), on the Someș River flow rate and some general physico-chemical parameters (pH, total disolved solids and suspend ed matter). Someș River is a left tributary of the Tisa River on the Hungarian territory, and is part of the Someș-Crasna hydrographic catchment, summing 5528 km network length coded, who drains an area of 15740 km2. Interpretation of the collected data and statistical processing has demonstrated that the fluctuations of the flow rate of the river are closely dependent on the seasons from the considered period (2004-2012) and correlations between hydrological and chemical parameters. Because a large part of the Someș River crosses the human settlements and important agricultural areas, the study may be useful in the prediction of flooding and drought risks.

IMPACT OF DROUGHT ON THE PRODUCTIVITY OF AGRICULTURAL CROPS WITHIN THE OLTENIA PLAIN, ROMANIA
Authors: Irina Ontel, Alina Vladut
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of moisture conditions on the productivity of agricultural crops within the Oltenia Plain, Romania at various time scales. The agro-databases contain the productions of winter wheat, maize and sunflower reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Agricultural Department for the period 1971-2013. The meteorological elements used were represented by the rainfall amount and air-temperature recorded at the six meteorological stations: Drobeta-Turnu Severin, Calafat, Băilești, Bechet, Craiova, Caracal and Turnu-Magurele. According to the SPI and De Martonne Index, the driest years, with low rainfall amounts, were 1983-1985, 1993, 2000, 2002, 2007 and 2012, with different degrees of water defcit. Moreover, the years with the lowest productions were recorded in the last half of the analysed period: 1993, 1996, 2000, 2002, 2007 and 2012. The impact of the drought variability of yield on the agricultural crops was evaluated using Bravais-Pearson correlations test, which was statistically signifcant in the last half of the reference period, while the correlation in the frst half of the period it was not statistically signifcant. This result can be explained by the political system and the gradual degradation of the irrigation system, which determined the addiction on climatic conditions after ‘89 years.

RESEARCH ON THE SURFACE WATER QUALITY IN MINING INflUENCED AREA IN NORTH-WESTERN PART OF ROMANIA
Authors: Irina Smical, Adriana Muntean, Eugen Nour
Abstract: The paper highlights the current situation of the quality of surface water in the areas influenced by mining activities in the north-western part of Romania. In this respect a series of investigations have been conducted regarding the contamination with heavy metals of the water of the Someş and Tisa hydrographic Basins, which cover the northern part of Maramures County and the south-western area of Maramures County, respectively. The results of the comparative research refer to the period between 1999 and 2011 and reveal the specifc heavy metal ions of mining activity: Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Pb Cd and Ni, as well as the water pH. The presented values as annual average values reveal an increase in several heavy metals after the closure of mines, which is due to the lack of effectiveness of the closure and of the conservation of the mine galleries, as well as of the impaired functioning of the mining wastewater treatment plants.

WORK ZONES OF NOVI SAD (VOJVODINA, SERBIA) WITH EXAMPLES OF INDUSTRIAL TRANSFORMATION
Authors: Dragan D. Milošević, Jasmina Đorđević
Abstract: In this paper are presented historical industrial development and present industrial distribution in Novi Sad, the second largest city in the Republic of Serbia and the largest city of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. At present, industrial facilities in the city are located in work zones, at the entrance traffc routes to the city and the surrounding settlements, on individual sites within other city function areas or within the lots of family housing. Nevertheless, established work zones are main areas for industrial development of the city. Novi Sad has seven work zones: “Sever I”, “Sever II”, “Sever III”, “Sever IV”, “Rimski Šančevi”, “Zapad” and “Istok” that occupy 1761.9 ha. There are signifcant opportunities for economical development in these work zones, both on unconstructed surfaces and in the present complexes. Unfortunately, due to the crisis of industry in Serbia, numerous industrial facilities in the work zones of Novi Sad are neglected. In this paper are given examples of transformation of neglected industrial facilities and use of unconstructed area in work zone in Novi Sad. Transformation of industrial facilities within work zones is present in many cities (Budapest, Bucharest, Zagreb, Maribor, Milano, Krakow, New York) with positive examples.
