INLAND EXCESS WATER MAPPING USING HYPERSPECTRAL IMAGERY
Authors: Bálint Csendes, László Mucsi
Abstract: Hyperspectral imaging combined with the potentials of airborne scanning is a powerful tool to monitor environmental processes. The aim of this research was to use high resolution remotely sensed data to map the spatial extent of inland excess water patches in a Hungarian study area that is known for its oil and gas production facilities. Periodic floodings show high spatial and temporal variability, nevertheless, former studies have proven that the affected soil surfaces can be accurately identified. Besides separability measurements, we performed spectral angle classification, which gave a result of 85% overall accuracy and we also compared the generated land cover map with LIDAR elevation data.
Keywords: inland excess water, SAM classification, spectral separability, LIDAR, hyperspectral remote sensing.

HYDROLOGICAL DROUGHTS IN THE JUŽNA MORAVA RIVER BASIN (SERBIA)
Authors: Marko Urošev, Dragan Dolinaj, Igor Leščešen
Abstract: Spatial and temporal analysis of hydrological droughts, defned by two variables: defcit and duration of drought, is presented in this paper. Time series of defcits and drought durations are derived using threshold level method for 15 hydrological stations in basin of Južna Morava (Serbia). Since Q90 was used as thresh old level for drought defnition, these time series are ready for frequency analysis of extreme droughts. The longest average duration of drought is observed on Visočica River at Braćevci, then on Vlasina River at Vlasotince, and shortest droughts on upstream stations of Južna Morava, Vladičin Han and Grdelica. There is a direct relationship between absolute values of drought defcits and catch ment area or mean annual water discharge, while standardize defcits have similar spatial distribution as drought duration. Regional defcit index (RDI) was calculated, which enabled insight in spatial-temporal drought characteristics in defned regions, like seasons when droughts most often occur, and derivation of largest droughts, both in terms of their duration, and covered area.

Authors: Rastislav Stojsavljević, Sanja Božić, Milica Kovačević, Milka Bubalo Živković, Đurđa Miljković
Abstract: Tourism on Kopaonik and Zlatibor mountains had started to develop decades ago, but at the beginning of the 21st century, mountain tourism started to develop rapidly and the number of tourists in the mountain regions of Serbia has signifcantly increased. Constant improvements of tourism offer and numerous tourist activities on the Kopaonik and Zlatibor mountains influenced an upward trend of a number of tourists. The principal aim of this paper is to investigate whether the particular relevant climate parameters, such as mean monthly temperature and a number of snowy days, can affect the increase or decrease of the number of tourists and overnight stays in the analyzed two mountains. For this purpose, the regression analysis was used. The results indicate that there is a signifcant impact of selected climate parameters on tourist traffc in the Kopaonik and Zlatibor mountains.

MORTALITY TRENDS AND DEPOPULATION IN SERBIA
Authors: Ivan Marinković, Biljana Radivojević
Abstract: The research presented in this paper is dealing with mortality and its impact on the natural increase, i.e. population dynamics in Serbia at the beginning of the 21st century. The aim is to draw attention to the potential of mortality as a natural component of changes in population when it comes to the possibility of mitigating the negative population trends. This paper will analyse changes in the age patterns of mortality of Serbian population from the mid 20th century, in order to point to the lack of progress in reducing age-specific mortality. The comparison with countries with low mortality rates (Slovenia and Sweden) will highlight the potential space for further mortality reduction in Serbia. The effect of a hypothetical fall of mortality by age on the level of natural increase will be measured on the basis of population projections for the period of half a century.

ANALYSIS OF MIGRATION TRENDS AND FUNCTIONS OF AREAS INHABITED BY ROMA: EXAMPLE OF MEĐIMURJE COUNTY (CROATIA) AND THE SETTLEMENT OF KURŠANEC
Authors: Slaven Kliček, Jelena Lončar
Abstract: Međimurje County stands out as a developed and densely populated county of Central Croatia. Demographic and socio-economic developmental trends of Međimurje indicate the referred-to status: age structure, birth rates, population activity rates and share of jobs are signifcantly higher than the Croatian average. At the same time, Međimurje is home to one of the largest Croatian Roma communities, ethnically homogeneous and spatially isolated, whose predominantly unfavourable geographical features make the opposite developmental pole of previously described developed areas inhabited by the majority population. Development indicators at county level have omitted concrete living conditions of Roma. They inhabit the rural periphery characterized by social and spatial segregation, unemployment and existence on the margins of society and settlements. This paper provides an analysis of housing, economic and social functions of areas inhabited by Roma, as well as migratory trends and main functional orientation of these areas in Međimurje County. In so, the settlement of Kuršanec will be emphasized as a representative example of areas inhabited by Roma in Međimurje County.

TECHNICAL-URBANISTIC INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE ROMANIAN DANUBE VALLEY. URBAN VS. RURAL TERRITORIAL DISPARITIES
Authors: Bianca Mitrică, Nicoleta Damian, Irena Mocanu, Paul Şerban, Radu Săgeată
Abstract: Infrastructure, particularly technical one, is basis of economic activities both in urban and rural areas. The Romanian sector of the Danube Valley covers a large area, in which the life of resident communities is shaped by the River (1,075 km long). At present, 266 local administrative units (LAU2) in the Romanian Danube Valley number 238 communes, 28 municipia and towns and a population of 1.7 million inhabitants. The study relies on the data provided by the National Institute of Statistics, the results of the Population and Housing Census (2011) and TEMPO Online Database (Internet 1). Hierarchizing LAU2 in terms of the technical-urbanistic infrastructure was made by the Hierarchical Ascending Classification (HAC). The aim was to group together territorial-administrative units by their parametric variables. There are many Danube Valley communities still unconnected to local drinking-water and sewerage systems, a restrictive factor in drawing potential investments into local economies. The study points out that the large Danubian port-cities also have the longest water and natural gas supply networks, as well as the greatest proportion of dwelling-houses connected to these systems. A fairly good situation have also some rural settlements lying close to big municipia or to tourist towns (in Danube Gorge and Danube Delta).

ACHIEVING COMPETENCIES WITH GRAMMAR SCHOOL STUDENTS THROUGH UTILISATION OF SELECTED DIDACTICAL PRINCIPLES IN TRADITIONAL AND ACTIVE TEACHING – GEOGRAPHY CLASS CASE STUDY: “HYDROGRAPHY OF SERBIA”
Authors: Tin Lukić, Sanja Božić, Dušan Sakulski, Snežana Babić-Kekez, Ljubica Ivanović Bibić, Snežana Besermenji, Marija Bura, Zorica Dubovina, David Davidović, Dragan Dolinaj
Abstract: Lecture-based teaching is still the prevalent form of teaching in almost all secondary schools in Serbia. Although active teaching cannot eliminate all the shortcomings in the teaching of Geography, this particular form gives the best opportunities for understanding individual abilities and preferences of students. The principal aim of the study was to explore which way of teaching (modern-active or traditional-passive) is more benefcial for motivating students’ learning and acquiring competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in Geography. Research was conducted to analyse competencies acquired by selected high school students through the application of certain didactic principles in the third grade of Grammar school “Laza Kostić” (Novi Sad, Serbia) with the topic “Hydrography of Serbia”. Fieldwork investigation was comprised of conducted survey questionnaire (with pupils evaluating motivation and participation in the process of teaching Geography, as well as activities and learning/acquiring certain geographical content through selected didactic principles, forms, methods, and tools) and the competency test. Descriptive statistics was used for calculating the percentage and average values. The independent t-test was used in order to determine whether there is a statistically signifcant difference between the experimental and control group regarding the self-evaluation of motivation, participation in teaching, and learning. The difference in terms of acquiring competencies between experimental and
control groups was explored by the Chi-square test (χ2). In order to determine whether there is a correlation between self-evaluation in terms of motivation, cooperation, and learning, as well as in the knowledge test between the experimental and control groups, Pearson’s correlation coeffcient (r) has been calculated. The results indicate that the students have higher level of motivation, and are more interested in learning and acquiring knowledge when the teacher organises the lecture through active learning techniques. The knowledge and skills resulting from these kinds of classes are higher. Also, the results obtained from this type of experimental classes, showed that with an increase of skills and abilities, there is no increase in knowledge implying that modern (active) teaching presented better results than the traditional teaching format, but not in all analysed segments.
