Loess, Soils & Climate Change in Southern Eurasia

Gorgan, Iran from 15th to the 19th October 2014

The international conference “Loess, Soils & Climate Change in Southern Eurasia” is announced by the Department of Soil Science at Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the Institute of Geography at University of Cologne, the Institute of Crop Science and Resource Conservation at Bonn University and the Section of Geochronology and Isotope Hydrology at Leibniz Institute for Applied Geophysics, Hanover and co-organized by Soil Science Society of Iran. The meeting was held in Gorgan, Iran from 15th to the 19th October 2014. This conference continued the tradition of previous meetings of the INQUA loess community, bringing together the most relevant loess researchers worldwide and opening up the results of loess investigation to a much wider scientific community. More than 80 participants from seven different countries took part in the meeting in Serbia, which comprised two days of talks in Gorgan and two excursions in northern Iran and Basin of Persopolis to examine some of the most important loess sections in southwestern Asia. In addition, the participants examined a number of impressive Iranian natural and cultural heritages, such as incredible arid semi-arid landscapes of Golestan province and UNESCO World Heritage sites Gonbad-e Qaubas towe and ruins of the Persian town Persopolis.
